Free while we built it—with you.
We're in open beta. Every feature is free for everyone right now, and there will always be a generous free tier once we begin to charge. Here's how we're thinking about it — openly, before we have all the answers.
Why there's no price here yet.
An honest note from Kelly & Luke, founders
We'd rather tell you the truth than show you a number we'd have to take back. Student Body is in open beta for the next two to three months while we finalize product decisions and tighten how everything works.
During that window, everything is free for everyone — students, instructors, and studios alike. That includes features we expect will eventually sit inside a paid plan. We're still learning which those are, and your use of them is part of how we'll decide.
When we do introduce paid plans, two things will stay true: there will be a real, expansive free tier for every role, and we'll tell you well before anything changes. No surprise invoices, no quietly locking the doors you walked through during beta.
We think pricing should follow value, not precede it. So we're showing you the shape of our thinking now, and we'll fill in the numbers once we've earned the right to.
What we're committing to
Three things that won't change.
A free tier, always
Every role will keep a meaningful free tier — not a locked demo. If you can do something useful today, you'll still be able to do something useful for free.
Notice before we charge
We'll tell you clearly and early before any feature moves behind a plan. Nothing you rely on in beta disappears overnight.
Students train for free
Finding classes, booking, and showing up will always be free for students. Paid plans, when they arrive, are for the people running the teaching.
The shape of what's coming
Roughly how it'll split.
Not a price list — a sketch of where free ends and paid might begin for each role. The specifics are still moving, so treat this as direction, not a promise of exact features.
Students
Free. Full stop.
Always free
- Discover and book classes across Porto
- Class descriptions in three languages
- Personalized, explainable recommendations
- Follow the instructors you love
Likely paid
Nothing planned. Students are why the rest exists — we don't intend to charge you to move.
Instructors
Free to build a teaching life.
Always free
- A professional profile and discovery
- Manage your students and schedule
- Take bookings and keep your relationships
May become a plan
Deeper demand insights, advanced branding, and payment & automation tools for instructors who want to grow.
Studios
Free to get on the map.
Always free
- List a venue and its classes
- Be discovered by local movers
- Route feedback to the right place
May become a plan
Multi-venue management, cross-location analytics, and team tools for studios running at scale.
This is intentionally open-ended. What's free versus paid may shift during beta — and your feedback is one of the biggest inputs into where those lines land.
How we'll get there
The road from beta to pricing.
Now — open beta
Everything, free
Two to three months of full access for every role while we finalize the product and learn what matters most.
Before we charge
We'll show our work
Clear notice, the actual plans, and what stays free — shared here well ahead of any change.
After launch
Free tier stays
Paid plans for those who want more, an expansive free tier for everyone else, and students always free.
Questions
Pricing, plainly.
Is Student Body free right now?
Completely. We're in open beta, and every feature is free for everyone — students, instructors, and studios alike — including the ones we expect will eventually sit in a paid plan.
When will you start charging?
Not for the next two to three months, while we finalize the product in open beta. When we do introduce paid plans, we'll share them here and give clear notice well before anything changes — no surprise invoices.
Will there always be a free tier?
Yes. Every role keeps a meaningful free tier — not a locked demo. If you can do something useful today, you'll still be able to do something useful for free once we begin charging.
Will the features I use in beta get locked behind a paywall?
We won't quietly lock the doors you walked through during beta. Some capabilities may eventually move into a paid plan, but you'll get clear, early notice first — never a feature disappearing overnight.
Do students pay to use Student Body?
Discovering classes, booking, and showing up are free for students, and we intend to keep it that way. Classes themselves are priced by the instructor or studio — and when in-app payments arrive, you'll pay them directly and securely.
What might become paid for instructors and studios?
Still being decided — your use during beta is one of the biggest inputs. The free tier covers getting discovered, managing classes and students, and core scheduling. Paid plans would be for deeper tools: advanced demand insight, branding, multi-venue management, automation.
What's still on the way?
In-app payments, paid waitlist auto-claim, and a student wallet with class packs are all coming. The Studio product and messaging are live today. During beta, instructors can sign up themselves, while studios join by invitation.
